Early Years:  Fresh from graduate school at The University of Kansas, Gary began working on newscasts in Topeka, Kansas and was soon promoted to weekend newscast director.  Two years later he moved to Atlanta and worked at WAGA-TV, then a CBS affiliate. While there, he quickly was promoted to Staff Director and not only directed evening newscasts but pioneered post-production at the station, winning 4 Emmys.  His radical design for a new live control room is still in use two decades later.

By 1995, Gary landed an 2-year contract as the lead editor for the Atlanta Olympic Committee.  During that time, former product managers at Ampex had moved to the Abekas Corporation, leaders in DVE technology.  Gary was commissioned to develop demonstration materials and help launch a worldwide product tour, introducing the Dveous digital video effects device.  To date, the Dveous is the best selling DVE of all times.

In 2001, Gary transitioned to non-linear edit systems, choosing the higher end compositinghttp://img.skitch.com/20090604-b36f47bpi2khcwdg5whbqf6x82.jpg systems by Discreet and Autodesk.  As a Discreet Smoke freelancer, he worked primarily on network promotions for CNN and The Weather Channel.
